Well, I'm finally done festooning the house for the holidays, and it looks lovely. As usual, it's rather overdone, but what can I say? I like it that way. Yesterday, I started at 11 a.m. and worked until 9 p.m., stopping only to eat, pee, and get online briefly. My saint of a husband kept Nick occupied away from the house all day so that I could work uninterrupted. I got the mantel and entertainment center all done, as well as the other interior decor, and got my "secondary" trees up and decorated. During Nick's nap, Brian helped me put up the big tree, and I got it all fluffed and ready to decorate. I chatted with Tim on the phone whilst I fluffed, which made the chore much less onerous. Today, I put all 8,541,236 ornaments on the big tree (it's really very out of control), and we did the outside stuff. And hallelujah - we're done! We can now enjoy the beauty for 5 weeks or so, until it's time to dismantle it and pack it all away again. Sometimes, I wonder if it's worth it, but then when I get it all up, I remember that it most definitely is.
Exercising went by the wayside yesterday, for the 4th day in a row, but tonight, I'm heading down to the basement to walk and ellipse :) while I watch Desperate Housewives.
Here are some pics of my wonderland: 1) my kitschy white kitchen tree, with glittering balls of colorful goodness 2) my real aluminum tree from the 1950s, with various balls in shades of blue 3) the big living room tree - no theme - just ornaments that I love or that mark particular events in our lives 4) my mantel 5) my entertainment center, which has my Santa collection in addition to pictures with Santa, including two from MY childhood!
Wow, I am impressed. You are really a woman obsessed with all things Christmas! I love the white tree with colored balls--so beautiful! Your house is like a winter wonderland.
We put up our ancient tree (hand-me-down from my parents) and have decided this should probably be the year to replace it. It is leaning at an alarming angle--Bil had to rig up a weight in the back so it wouldn't tip over. Definitely need to buy a new one once the sales hit.
Thanks for sharing those pictures. I love to see how you decorate.
There was once an actual salamander in my Dad’s slipper (His house is in a rather wooded area and is a haven to many non-human creatures.), and my best friend and I thought that would make a great children’s book title. We never wrote the book, but I figured I might as well put the catchy phrase to use as my blog title. Why not? (We don't know for sure if it was really a salamander vs. some other kind of lizardlike creature, but we were going for the alliteration. Artistic license, ya know?)
I'm a 35-year-old woman currently living in small-town MO. I'm from Springfield, MO's 3rd-largest city, and I'll hopefully reside there again in the summer of 2010. I'm currently a stay-home mom to my 6-year-old son, Nicholas, but I'm also a classically-trained soprano, and I still sing in choirs when I get the chance and have the occasional paid solo gig. I'm also a certified group fitness instructor, and I teach a body sculpting class at my gym, in addition to subbing for other classes (like step and yoga) as needed. I consider myself pretty intelligent and well-educated (Bachelor's in vocal performance with a minor in German), and have sometimes been known to have a deep thought or two. :) I might even have some worth sharing. Most of my posts, though, will probably be more mundane, superficial ramblings about my daily life. Stay tuned, and let me know what you think! (Could I BE more long-winded?) :)

Thanks for the pictures. I LOVE seeing your house all decorated. I wish I could come over for hot chocolate and gab amidst all the Christmas glimmer.
